Q&A With Author Brian Rathbone
February 14, 2013 | Posted by Missy under Digital Reading News |
Brian Rathbone is an American author and publisher of several books on Amazon, including (Call of the Herald, Inherited Danger, and Dragon Ore).
His specialty seems to be in Fantasy and Sci Fi. We recently ran into Brian online and wanted to ask him a few questions to learn more about him, his books and horses. See our interview below.
1. Tell me about yourself, personally? Hometown, previous career, family, pets, etc.
Thanks for having me and a warm hello to all of your readers. I grew up in southern New Jersey on a working farm training standardbred racehorses. I left the family business behind and became a network engineer, programmer, and inventor. All along, though, I knew I would one day write.
2. How did you get into writing? What inspired or motivated you to put pen to paper.
Reading fantasy novels has long been among my favorite pasttimes. When I worked as a programmer, I would write code in my sleep, which was exhausting. I started thinking of story lines before sleep, and the Godsland series was born.
3. How long have you been an author?
I started writing in the Atlanta airport in March of 2005. I was on my way home from a technology related conference, and I knew it was time for a change. What better change than to pursue a dream.
4. Did you intend from the beginning to publish direct to Kindle, or did that come as an afterthought?
Kindle wasn’t nearly as popular in 2008 when I released the first trilogy, and I went to trade paperback first. Print on demand also wasn’t prevalent at the time, and I invested in an offset print run. Things are much easier and less expensive these days.
5. What has been your experience with authoring a digital ebook and also selling on Amazon?
This has been one of the most freeing experiences of my life. It is a worthy pursuit that requires patience, commitment, and investment.
6. What is your process for writing? Do you do it one day at a time in spurts or hunker down in the basement, and get tons done in one shot.
When I have a writing day, I try to write 1,000 words at a time, which takes me about a half an hour. Then I take a break for a half an hour and repeat five times.
7. What are you looking to write about in 2013, or are you in promotion mode right now.
I’m working on the third trilogy in the Godsland series, as well as having the audiobooks produced. Book promotion is like breathing; stopping is a bad idea. I’m always looking for ways to introduce people to the three free ebooks in the Godsland series.
8. Where can we follow you, and learn more about your various books?
