Every June in the USA, road trips are taking place from city to city all month long as families cooped up for the Winter, finally head out for good sights and sounds. Along with all this travel, families take to the road with their various gadgets and tech. One of the most popular tablets after the iPad is the Kindle Fire from Amazon; because of its size and many fun apps.

We hit Amazon looking for good travel Kindle Fire books and apps aimed at geeks and below are our top finds. Agree? Disagree? Tell us in the comment section.

1. Road Trip USA -

The quintessential book for road warriors everywhere. This is considered the bible of travel by many experienced road trippers. Why? Because it has tons of information on some of the most interesting and off the beaten path attractions in the USA. Luckily for travelers everywhere there’s a Kindle version which means you can stock up and not have to worry about heavy and bulky books. 2. Trip It -

This app is a great all in one app for traveling, as it houses everything in one place including your complete itinerary, your reservations at a hotel or for a car rental. You can also share your travel plans with friends and family members via the built in share feature. This app makes it easy to see everything at a glance and refer back to it  on the go. Great for those short on time (and what traveler isn’t?) – we found it online via Amazon.

3. National Geographic Magazine -

This is the companion app to the magazine and it has all the features you would expect from a world class travel magazine. As much as this magazine was made for those who love to take digital vacations it’s also for those who relish seeing and reading about far off places while in far off places. If that describes you, then this is the Kindle Fire app for you. The app itself is free, the magazine subscription is not.

4. Road Trip: US Route 66 -

Similar in scope to the app mentioned above, but exclusively for attractions on famed Route 66. There’s so much to see and do on this route, there are many books covering this popular travel destination. The Road Trip: US Route 66 guidebook in Kindle format is great for those on the road as it is for those who are about to embark on the trip of a lifetime soon. This guidebook will show you everything there is to see and do along this magnificent and popular route.

Traveling is an adventure like no other, and when we couple it with our gadgets and toys – many times we can capture and record every minute of it along with enhancing the trip as a whole. The Kindle Fire apps and books above do just that and all are free via your Kindle Fire or online via Amazon.

I was looking for an alarm clock app for my Kindle Fire and found a good one by Apalon. I basically just did a quick search for “alarm clock app” through the tablet itself and up came a few – including Alarm Clock Xtreme Free and  Bedside Alarm Clock Free.

I settled on the (Alarm Clock by Apalon) because of it’s appearance and interface.

It’s a free app I found on Amazon that you simply download to the Kindle Fire. You can then configure the time, location, alarm sound, display and one of my fave features – you can DIM the screen. Also it works when the tablet is off, so need to keep it on to use the alarm.

It’s a simple, no frills app that does what you want it to do – tell time and wake you up when you need it to wake you UP.

3. Match.com – similar in context to Plenty of Fish above, although geared towards the hipper clientele. Since Match.com does lots of large advertising campaigns, many have heard of them more so than Plenty of Fish. So if you want to go with something a bit well known and established, you cannot go wrong with the Match.com Kindle Fire app. The app itself is free, however this does not include free service to the site. You still need to sign up as a paid member to avail of its many offerings.

4. Date Rate – if you’re not sure which online dating site is right for you, this app might help. It’s an app that rates dating sites and gives you information on each. The beauty in this app is the capability to search for any number of factors such as gay/LGBT, Latino, Over 40, sports lovers, Christian and so on. In other words, you can narrow a dating site to a core set of demographics so that just the market you’re looking for, is what comes up. This app is great for those who seek to find a good match between user and dating site. AAA++
